Picture Day

Oh, the joys of Picture Day.
Part 1, Tuesday, Joshua's day: In our house, I pick out the clothes for the kids. Anthony just doesn't like that job. So I set out a nice pair of jeans and a striped polo shirt (because I don't dress him in skinny jeans and a western shirt) for Josh. A couple hours later Anthony calls me and mentions that Josh didn't like the striped shirt, so he changed the shirt. I realize at this moment that I didn't mention to Anthony that it was Picture Day. Here's our conversation:
"What is he wearing now?"
"The Penguin T-Shirt."
"The Penguin T-Shirt?"
"Yes. It's fun and he likes it."
"Today is Picture Day."
PAUSE
"I guess we won't buy those pictures."

Part 2, Tuesday evening, Anna's Picture Day eve: both kids are taking a bath and playing with bath toys, so I'm doing various odd jobs. I hear Anna say, "Mommy, come watch this." Anthony goes in so I ignore it until I hear Anthony sound shocked about something. I go in to find that Anna has wrapped a nice chunk of her hair around the propeller of a wind up submarine.

She thought it was funny.
Well, she did until Anthony couldn't get it out. And couldn't get it out. And couldn't get it out. It was all wrapped around this submarine. I wish I had taken a picture, but that would have caused more emotional trauma.

My immediate thought: tomorrow is Picture Day. And she's going to have a huge bald spot. (No compassion for my child's current problem. Just worried about how she'll look in pictures.)
After lots of crying and LOTS of work, Anthony dismantled and destroyed the submarine.
Then we're left with a crazy knot of red hair. I mean crazy knot.

My immediate thought: tomorrow is Picture Day. And she's going to have a huge bald spot. (Second time I've thought this. I'm such a great mom.)
So we get to work on the knot. It took about 15 minutes, but it does all come undone. No bald spot.

I really hope next year isn't so eventful.
