We're at a point where Joshua doesn't take a nap everyday. This is really quite nice, since now I don't have to rush home from preschool to get him to bed. However, it isn't so much fun when he gets overtired and super cranky.
A few days ago I let the kids have "rest time" on the couch and watch a video since we were going to the pool later that afternoon. I realize some supermoms don't have to rely on the TV to entertain their children, but I am no such supermom. I confess that I do let the kids watch some PBS shows and various G rated movies.
Well, on this day I had done all my chores - dinner prep, laundry, etc., and the thought came to me that I could have a Quiet Time. Remember what this is, parents of young children? It's when you have time to actually read the Bible, pray, and meditate. I was very excited about having 30 minutes of movie left. So I open up the Bible. I think Josh heard me do this, because he immediately comes into the room to talk to me. No kidding. I told him to go back and watch TV.
So he went back for about 2 minutes.
Then he came back. I walked him back to the TV. (I'm a good mom, right?)
Then he came back. So I closed the door hoping he'd get the message. But no, he stood outside the door and cried and cried. It is a little difficult to concentrate on reading when your 3 year old is crying, even though I know there's nothing wrong.
So I tried 1 more time to get him to watch the movie. No dice. By this time I'm quite frustrated - all I wanted was time with no one asking me a question.
I gave up. And then, after this 20 minute ordeal, he finally tells me what he wants. "Mommy, please sit with me." Well, I can do that.
Cute kid. I guess a 2 minute Quiet Time is all I get these days. Hopefully I'll find a couple more chances this week, but no guarantee.
