For the second time this spring, we took a trip to Dollywood. But this wasn't just any trip. We splurged a bit and actually drove up and stayed in a hotel Sunday night before the big Monday trip to Dollywood. (Usually we just make it a day trip.) We weren't totally sure how it would go, but it sounded like fun family time, at least in theory.
Well... it started out quite well because we realized our hotel was quite swanky. The hotels in Gatlinburg tend to be a bit dated. In fact everything in Gatlinburg tends to be a bit dated - like it just flew out of the 70's. However! This hotel is brand new.
Our first stop was the Aerial Tramway, which is a tourist trap, albeit a pretty cool one. You ride a European type cable car tram thing over Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. I was surprised that I really DID NOT like it. The heights freaked me out and I sat on the floor. But finally we arrived at the top of the mountain. About 5 minutes after our arrival, a HUGE thunderstorm opened up! Crazy, crazy rain that didn't stop. Thus, we didn't get our return Tram ride - they shuttled us down the bus. Even though I didn't like the Tram, I was rather annoyed to not get the full ride for what we paid.
Then we went to dinner at an overpriced restaurant where the kids wouldn't eat their burgers because they weren't like McDonald's.
We finally made it back to the hotel and life is better - the Pool and the (wait for it...) WATER SLIDE! Everything is okay now!
Sleeping with a 5 year old and a 3 year old in hotel room - not so much fun. Especially our particular 3 year old who is a LOUD sleeper. Every 2 hours he woke us up with his sleep talking. Not so much fun.
At 6:30, Anna asks if it is time to get up - she also hasn't enjoyed Josh's sleep talking.
Then we're off to Dollywood with our friends and quite possibly one of the best Dollywood trips ever. I say that because we actually got to do the adult rides and not just the kiddie ones.

The girls planning the day.
All the kiddos.
The teacups. I can no longer enjoy this ride, but I did at their age.
Joshua loves driving his car, even if it is pink.
